For our (Indian, Telugu societies I am referring here) passion towards white skin, here are some examples:
1. Fair and pyaar AND its sister/borther creams are sold in millions here. In particular the disgusting adds shown to promote them. They show as if, if you have a little black skin then there is something wrong.
2. Getting a black skin person (irrespective of male of female) married is a bit tough job.
3. In our movies, TVs, media white skin, fair skin models are promoted like anything. Another disgusting this is a bit black skin people are promoted as comedians or villains.
what could be the reason for our passion towards this fair skin? Some say it is becuase of British-Raj. But I think this passion was there even before British. Age old stories had glimpses of this trend. May our rulers from thousands of years are more fair skin people which led us to have passion towards fair skin.
But now it is democracy. We are more human. We have a constituency with respectable character in it for equality of all Indian citizens. Time to change something.
Is there an advantage of promoting more fair skin genes in our countries gene pool of future? Does this fair skin gene pool better in some way? Does this fair skin gene pool better in immunity? Does this fair skin gene pool better for our environment?
AFAIK the answer to all above questions is NO.
Thus it is time to stop this madness. let us be Indian irrespective of our skin color.
